First session back

So after 4 weeks off (completely) I took the plunge and thought I would try a light session. First of all let me stress this - very rarely is a BJJ/Grappling session light. Even if in the best interest you intend it to be, it more often then not isn't!!! You get the message.

We started off with some basic movements - retrieving guard from side control and half guard. Steve threw in a nice submission set up and we drilled this for roughly 20 minutes.

After that we hit the mats and rolled - I love this part of training. I get to put into practice what I have been taught and adjust accordingly to my game. Thankfully most of my partners were compassionate to my damaged ankle so the evening went well.

It has to be accepted that the day after is going to be a sore one - however I didn't intend it to be this sore! I sit here now with a slightly throbbing ankle wondering if it was worth it. But I then tell myself that movement is vital in the healing process of a ligament - is it not?

The first session back after a prolonged period of time is always the hardest one. Peoples skill level can move quickly in BJJ and even though you wouldn't have lost much fitness in a short time of absence, you will struggle slightly. Thankfully my EGO is such that I enjoy seeing the White and Blue Belts hold their own that little bit better. Not only is it good for them, but means I have to keep on top of my own game as a Purple Belt.

Be mindful how soon you go back to training after an injury but don't put it off to long.....

Train hard, get injured, recover and train hard some more ;)
